HURLING
Sunday
was a wonderful day for Waterford hurling when the Deise beat Galway in the All-Ireland Hurling Minor Final in Croke Park on a scoreline of 1-21 to 0-16. This was a tremendous team effort by the lads who played with so much style, passion, determination and skill to capture the Irish Press Cup for the first time since 1948. Congratulations to Barry Whelan and all his team mates on this historic victory. Barry's family have every reason to be so proud of him, as we all are in CLG Micheal MacCraith , he is a fantastic role model for our younger players . We gave Barry a send off down the club on Saturday , thanks to our sponsors Quishs' Supervalu who provided a gigantic cake decked out in blue and white and for everyone to enjoy and thanks to Sean Power , Waterford Minor Manager who popped in to say a few words despite his busy schedule.
Our Junior Hurlers took a team to the St Judes Sevens in Dublin on Saturday winning a couple of games before bowing out to a last minute goal at the quarter final stage.
The lads who took part were Michael O Sullivan, John Clancy, Gary Dunphy, Conor McCarthy, Matthew Thompson, Eric Lonergan, Craig Burke, Oliver St. John, Eoin Kiely, Declan McKenna. The team was managed by Shane Dunphy and a special mention for Brian Naughton who helped out on the day.
On other business our Junior Premier hurling team will play Ballydurn in the Eastern Final, on Saturday, 28 September.
