Club News 25th April

posted 24 Apr 2016, 14:34 by diarmuid mccarthy

Sincere sympathy to Mick Rouine and family, Lahinch, County Clare on the recent death of his beloved Dad, John Joe. Mick came to Tramore as a teacher to Holy Cross in 1987 and made a huge impact with both Club and School until he returned home to Clare in the mid-nineties. He was an excellent Senior footballer for us during that time and was Manager of our Minor Football team that won the County Championship in 1993.  May the Lord have mercy on his gentle soul.

A big thank you to our club sponsors Quish's for their continued support of all our teams.

Thanks to all who've already paid their 2016 membership.  To those that haven't yet paid please now arrange to do so without further delay as these funds are urgently needed to pay vital costs and overheads.

We returned to losing ways against An Ghaeltacht last Friday night after a bright start to the campaign which saw us winning our first 3 games when we turned in a below par performance at last . Try as we might we never got going to the level of our other matches and An Ghaeltacht were deserving winners .We have 2 games left in the league part of the campaign before the knockout stages so hopefully we will return to winning ways. Next up is Dungarvan away Sat 7th May.

Our U8 footballers had a great day out in Carriganore last Saturday  rubbing shoulders with Waterford Intercounty Teams who were there playing challenge matches, they were inspired to great heights in their 3 matches . To a man they displayed all the attributes of seasoned footballers as they took on the teams from Gaultier, The Nire and Rathgormack. In ideal conditions they produced magical moments from start to finish , their parents should be rightly proud of them .Squad on the day Oisin Keating , Richard Keating , Dara O'Brien ,Ben Clune , Donagh  ,Ciarán O'Connor , JJ Corkery , Jack Healy , Ronan Geary ,Paddy O'Grady .

On Saturday at 1.00 our under 10's played Roanmore in the first league match of the year. Conditions were perfect and the game itself was of a very high standard. In the first half the lads attacked relentlessly with little luck as the Roanmore keeper was fantastic on the day and made a number of excellent saves and interceptions. We were 2 points down at the break after the lads controlled the game for long spells.

In the second half the backs were brilliant as the long pucks from the Roanmore keeper rained down on the full back line, only once did they break through. In the forwards captain for the day Sean Schley led the attack looking for the scores we needed. In the end we were a couple of points behind when the final whistle blew.

All were heroic on the day, after a shaky start. In midfield the dynamic duo of Jack and Kristian worked tirelessly, and the forwards worked their socks off but found the Roanmore keeper in fine form. Thanks to all the parents for bringing the kids along, you should all be very proud of their efforts on the day.
