The under 10 & under 8 girls started their delayed blitz season on a blistering hot Saturday in Butlerstown. With all the training these girls have been putting in, it was great to finally get out on the pitch and put their camogie skills to the test. The opposition on the day was in the form of girls from Clonea, Dungarvan and Butlerstown.
The Under 10s had 14 girls in attendance:- Hannah Corkery, Joely Power, Eimear and Sinead Dunphy, Rachel Mooney, Ellen Jones, Amy Hayden, Nina Molloy, Shuan Lourenco, Caramia Corcoran, Jovanna Gajic Alex Flemming, Sarah Byrne and Eoibheann Connor.
The girls all took to the field in various position over the morning (with a resounding clamour for the midfield positions) and acquitted themselves very well. In the heat of the matches, a number of girls took blows to the fingers, but despite this, they dusted themselves off and continue to play.
There was some fine exhibition of ground hurling by Sarah, Amy, Rachel and Hannah with Sinead displaying her lifting abilities to good effect. Eoibheann and Alex showed some excellent goal keeping skills with Ellen excelling at puck outs. Shuan & Caramia Nina and Emir along with Jovanna & Joely tackled expertly and moved into space to receive passes from teammates.
The general skills on display and the great attitude of the girls made for a very enjoyable morning for the girls, coaches and plethora of parents in attendance. The girls are all looking forward to testing themselves against other teams and further blitz as the season continues.
The Under 8 were represented on the day by Anna McGoldrick, Juno and Norah Cusack, Katie O'Neill, Rhian Bohan and Emma Corkery.
These girls also played against Clonea, Roanmore and Butlerstown and acquitted themselves very well. It was very evident that the girls skills are progressing and that their enjoyable training sessions are resulting in them performing very well in match situations. Keep up the good work girls.
The next blitz is due to take place on the 19th of July in Gaultier.
Training is each Wednesday from 6 to 7pm. All are welcome.
