Under 12B Championship (17/06/14)

The Under 12 girls claimed their first points in the championship on Tuesday night last as their match in Clonea-Power was played in the shadow of the mountains with the sun beaming down.

The girls had a difficult first half as they blew the car journey out of their system. While the rising of the sliothar was better executed by our girls, the Clonea team concentrated on moving the sliothar quickly by whatever means possible. This caused a degree of difficulty for our defence and after a number of attacks, the Clonea forwards forced the sliothar over the line on 2 occasions. They scored a further point when their half forward expertly flicked on a puck out over our bar.

After a shaky start, our girls started to find their rhythm. The girls were getting a number of opportunities and following good possession, Cassie scored a fine goal. This was followed by a well taken point, and so at half time there was a goal between the sides.

The second half was all about Tramore as they set about reducing the deficit.

Emily Mulhare came off the bench to shoot a fine goal and as the half wore on, the girls score 3 further points by Aoife, Flora and Ciara who ventured into the half forwards after minding goal for the first half.

Entering the final few minutes with a 3 point lead, Clonea mounted one final attack. The defence was breached and Clonea score a goal to share the spoils.

As the girls are often told, keep trying and you will be given a opportunity to score/ win games if your good enough. In this instance, Clonea created the opportunity and from lack of composure/ focus on our part, we ended up drawing a game we should have won.

Notwithstanding this, the girls played very well on the night. Shooting 4 points in the game is evidence of their application. The skills in lifting are improving quickly, and if we can add quicker and more accurate hitting from these opportunities, there will be many more goals and points scored.

The girls have a Dublin Camogie side visiting on Sunday morning and the championship resumes on Thursday next with a home game against Dungarvan.

Training is on Wednesday between 6 -7pm. All welcome including anyone new to the sport.
